Maybold-fashioned evangelicals would not agree, but modern evangelicalism is so geared to supporting the consumer society, in which being well off is a sign of God’s grace, so no wonder such prayerstake the form they do.
Few remember Jesus’s counsel to the young man: go & sell all you have.

Exactly. Well said. It reminds me of the “shamanic” variant of neopaganism, where someone takes a couple of years’ classes, goes to Peru for a week and pronounces themselves a healer or shaman (ugh).
