Meeting Jesus in Your Heart: Praying with St. Ignatius of Loyola (A Retreat at the Rock Hill Oratory)

I’ll be returning to one of my favorite retreat centers to lead another overnight retreat based on the spirituality of one of our greatest saints. This year we will be praying and reflecting on the life and wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola — and the rich tradition of Ignatian spirituality, which emphasizes finding God in all things and using the imagination as a doorway to prayer.

St. Ignatius of Loyola (the founder of the Society of Jesus or Jesuits) was one of the great spiritual guides in the history of the church. He developed a rich and unique approach to prayer, combining Biblical passages with the imagination to foster a deep encounter with Christ in our hearts.

Retreat begins Friday evening, October 11, with a presentation on the life and key teachings of Ignatius, and the story of the Spiritual Exercises. On Saturday we’ll move into a deeper, more prayerful space, using Ignatius’s methods to seek God’s will and direction for our lives and to enjoy the beautiful gift of God’s love and grace given to us through Christ and the Spirit. .
