Friends, I’m excited to visit my friends with Contemplative Outreach Tallahassee and The Front Porch: A Spiritual Life Center, who are co-sponsoring a Saturday program I’m leading in person on September 10. Hope to see you there!
The program will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL. We’ll be there on September 10 from 1o AM to 12:30 PM. For more information or to register, please contact Angela Shelley at angela@saint-john.org.

“Be still and know that I am God” is a promise from the Psalms: a promise that God may be known through stillness, silence, and contemplation. But how do we truly know God — and how does stillness truly invite us into this deeper way of knowing? Join The Front Porch and Contemplative Outreach Tallahassee Area for a mini-retreat with Carl McColman, an internationally known speaker and teacher on mystical spirituality and contemplative living.
BACKGROUND: By weaving the wisdom of Centering Prayer with insights from Christian mystics like Julian of Norwich, Ignatius of Loyola and Thomas Merton, we can discover how silent prayer is more than just a way to consent to the Spirit’s presence in our lives: it is a tool for interior transformation and deep intuitive insight. When we learn to rest in the silence of Centering Prayer, we learn how to be more truly human — a Christlike presence for healing and hope in our troubled world.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Our mini-retreat facilitator, Carl McColman, is the author of many books, including Eternal Heart and The Big Book of Christian Mysticism. Based in Atlanta, he is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer Introductory Workshops and a popular blogger, podcaster and retreat leader. Learn more about Carl online at anamchara.com
EVENT DETAILS: This event is in-person only, and will be held on Saturday, September 10, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. No RSVP is necessary. Our retreat will be held in the parish hall from 10 AM-12:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served.
This special class is presented by The Front Porch: a Spiritual Life Center. The Front Porch welcomes people along all paths who seek to deepen their spiritual lives. We offer contemplative practices, events, and classes rooted in Christian spirituality.
