Bede Griffiths went to India. Thomas Merton befriended the Dalai Lama. Jesuit priests like Robert Kennedy, Ruben Habito and Thomas Hand have all incorporated Zen meditation into their Christian practice.
Again and again, Christian spiritual seekers and leaders have found inspiration and insight from a variety of eastern meditative practices. Perhaps the great invitation for our time, at least for Christians, is to find creative and positive ways to maintain our identity as followers of Jesus Christ, while also celebrating and learning from the wisdom of the world’s meditative traditions.
This five week program will combine meditation practice with reflections on how Christianity and eastern practice can be brought together in a way that respects the beauty and integrity of each tradition. We will learn several different meditation practices and reflect together on how such practices can be appropriately integrated into the Christian life.
Students from all faiths or wisdom backgrounds are welcome, and at all level of meditation practice, beginner to advanced level.
Meets on Wednesday evenings for five weeks, from October 4 to November 8, 2023 (NO CLASS on October 18), from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Ignatius House.
Cost: $50, inclusive of all instructional materials. Click here to register.
