Two of the most popular Christian spiritual practices in our time are Centering Prayer, inspired by the writings of Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating, and the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. In some ways these are very different practices, as Centering Prayer emphasizes deep silence and stillness as a way of consenting to God’s action in our hearts. The Spiritual Exercises, of course, emphasize fostering a deeper intimacy with Jesus through a variety of prayer practices including praying with the imagination.
But while they are different approaches to spirituality, they also can complement each other beautifully. On this weekend retreat we will include time for Centering Prayer, invitations to prayer based on the Spiritual Exercises, and reflections on how to integrate these complementary approaches to growing deeper in prayer and faith.
This is a silent retreat. Guests are expected to maintain a sacred silence throughout the retreat, including at meals, unless otherwise noted.
This retreat begins Friday afternoon (June 9) and runs through late Sunday morning (June 11). For more information and/or to register, click here.
