I recently received a very nice email from a reader in Canada, who ended her message like this: “So thank you Carl and I look to somehow stay in touch with you?”
Here’s how I replied:
Thanks for this lovely message. Briefly put, the best ways to stay in touch are:
- Keep reading my blog, and comment on posts when you feel like doing so;
- Sign up for my email list — and get a free gift;
- Follow me on Facebook or on Twitter, if you do those kinds of things;
- Keep sending me comments/questions through my website’s contact page (I may not be able to answer all messages I receive, but I strive to read every one and I answer them when I can);
- Come to an retreat, class, or other event (or see if you can find a church or retreat center that could invite me to your community). Here are some of my upcoming events:[getnoticed-event-table scope=”upcoming” max=”7″ expanding=”true”]
Thanks for your interest in my work. Many blessings to you.

Carl, like you i am a member of the Conyers lay OCSO, having made my promises in 2000 to the then Abbot Basil Pennyington,OCSO who was a personal friend of mine from the Trappist Monastery”Spencer” of which i have been a retreatant for the past (59)years . So you can see i am getting to be a little long in the tooth as they say.
I have been unable to attend the lay OCSOgatherings for some years as i live in Phila,Pa. area and thanks to the airlines they have made it quite prohibitive for a short visit for one night. Up unyil the changes i would fly monthly to Contyers to attennd Idid that for approx. 10 years. I miss them enormously but have Spencer to help fill the void.
Something you may be interested in that i and others have formed a very strong relationship with the Carthusians and have several meetins and conversations with them. Long storey short they have accepted the fact that we refer to ourselves as SBLC or St.Bruno Lay Contempletives this has bee and on going process for the past almost 20 yrs. Allowing that the Carthusians order is 900 yrs. young.
Thank you for allowing me to sign on and become a part of the “team”
Your br. in Christ,
Charlie
Thank you Charlie. You are spoken of in Conyers with great fondness by those who know you. I hope we can meet someday. I’d love to learn more about the SBLC — does your group have a webpage or an email list that I could be part of?
Many thanks.
Hello,
I’m pretty new to the study of christian Mysticism. I do plan on ordering THE BIG BOOK OF CHRISTIAN MYSTICISM. And discovering your website has been a blessing. I also plan on choosing some books from your recommended reading list.
My introduction to mysticism is by way of Joel Goldsmith. I’ve read PRACTICING THE PRESENCE, THE ART OF SPIRITUAL HEALING, THE ART OF MEDITATION, and LIVING THE INFINITE WAY. Are you familiar with his works? If so I’d be interested in your take on his writings.
Sincerely,
Brad Thorson
You know, I haven’t read Goldsmith, but he’s already on my “to-read” list. Thanks for mentioning him. That’s the challenge of Christian mysticism: there’s a lifetime of great reading to explore.
