Friends, just want to make sure everyone is aware of a few upcoming events I have on the calendar. Join me for a retreat and a book signing in New York, or for a day of reflection in Maryland; and if you can’t meet me in those locations, join me online.
Here’s what’s coming up…
— April 25 (Online event): Teaming up with my friends Alice Camille and Paul Boudreau for a conversation / mini-online-retreat on the Psalms in the light of contemporary music and poetry. Sponsored by the Rock Hill Oratory, this 90-minute program will combine reflection, presentation, and conversation as we explore how the spirituality of the Psalms continues to inspire poets and lyricists in our time. If you have ever found a contemporary pop song to be spiritually moving, or have read a poem by Mary Oliver or Chelan Harkins and thought, “That’s kind of like a Psalm” — this program is for you. — May 31-June 2 (Retreat in West Park, New York): I’m returning to one of my favorite monasteries, Holy Cross Episcopal Monastery on the Hudson River, about an hour by train north of New York City. This Benedictine community weaves together deep silent, gorgeous chanting and canticles, and a spirit of contemplative reverence to create the perfect environment for a retreat exploring the wisdom of the mystics. Hope to see you there! Click here to learn more and to register.
— June 2 (Book signing in Woodstock, NY): Save the date! On the afternoon of Sunday, June 2, I’ll be visiting St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Woodstock, NY for a conversation and book signing. We’ll be exploring the spirituality of Christian mysticism especially in light of our culturally diverse world that all live in today. This will be a positive and inclusive exploration of a spirituality for all people. Visit St. Gregory’s Website to get more information about this event (final details TBD).
— June 8 (Day of reflection in Marriottsville, MD): I’ll be returning to the Bon Secours Retreat Center in Marriottsville (between DC and Baltimore) for a retreat day on the topic of gender diversity. Looking at some great saints and spiritual leaders from the past — folks like Joan of Arc and Pauli Murray — and celebrating Julian of Norwich’s proclamation about the Motherhood of God, this will be a safe space not to debate or discuss, but to join together in silence and prayer, trusting that the Spirit “in whom there is neither male nor female” can guide all of us to a deeper intimacy with the Divine, affirmed through the mystery of human gender. This is just a one-day retreat, but you can opt to come the night before for a silent evening, thereby making it a mini-retreat. Click here to learn more and to register.
Later this year I’ll have other in-person events in Atlanta, Charleston SC, Minneapolis, and Charlotte NC — as well as some online programming that might be of interest. But for now, I hope if you can make it to one or more of the above events, that I’ll see you there!
